Hello,
My name is Neil Neumark. I am reaching out for any contacts or information on my father, Colonel George Neumark, who was the senior officer of the 788th Ordnance Company which was attached to the 88th ID during WWII. Dad earned a Bronze Star, Silver Star and Legion of Merit medals during the Italian campaign. Although I do have several articles, photos and letters of dad from the war, I have so many unanswered questions about his activities and relationships with the 88th ID. Like most of the vets during that war, he rarely spoke about the war and I unfortunately never pressed him with the hundreds of questions I now have later in my life.Thank you!

Hi Neil, How have you been? I was looking back in my email to see if we had met before and if I suggested you post here and saw that back in 2009 you bought the Heirloom Edition of my 88th CDs with your dad's picture laser etched in the label art. I probably sold a couple hundred of those. I had to stop making them because the LightScribe cd media went out of production and what supplies remained became very expensive after few months, so I had to go to a plain white cd. Do you have his Silver Star Citation? I don't have much on the 788th and just don't have the time to let myself start searching. I requires reading everything you can find including the historical narratives and daily reports of the other divisions the 788th supported or otherwise crossed paths with. Unless you know any 88th ww2 vets personally it's going to be difficult to impossible to ask one anything. I was in contact with several for a few years when I started 20 years ago but not anymore. There's Invasion of Italy books on eBay that can get very detailed and specific, ww2 newsreels on YouTube to see and buy, FaceBook pages that you will want to have your own 788th page so people can find you. Also, check eBay, Amazon, Etsy and any other online action and sales websites you can find everyday because there's so much more still out there to be discovered that only shows up for sale in these places after grandpa dies and his closet cleaned out or gets bought in an estate sale somewhere. One other thing is to hire a researcher to go into the Library of Congress and look through the files. There's a guy in Italy, David Bedin, who did that and found film of his town of Cornuda being liberated by the 349th. I've got his email if you want to ask him about it. Here's his website. www.history-online.com/liberatori/it/introduction/Gary Smith MtMestas.com

Hi Gary,
Thank you so much for your reply. I believe that I have all of his citations but I think we may have buried some or all of his medals with him! Yes, I did buy the Heirloom Edition of your 88th CD. I had forgotten. No, I don't know any 88th ww2 vets, or unfortunately, any of their families. I have several ww2 books, including those on the 88th and the Italian campaign. I guess I am just waxing nostalgic in my old age and cannot imagine the courage and fortitude of all of our ww2 vets (and their families). If dad died in Italy (and unfortunately, several of his men in the 788th did die in several luftwaffe strafing episodes that he chronicled in letters to my mother), I of course would never have been born or be corresponding with you today! I never forget any of that!
Thanks again!
Neil

Hi Gary,
I have all of his citations and other war memorabilia in a scrapbook and now have misplaced it! I spent a good part of yesterday looking for it (even in my attic). It is possible that the scrapbook is at my brother's house. I will keep looking. I did find another scrapbook that had a few newspaper articles about his citations but not the actual citations. In any event, I wouldn't want to post his citations on this board (nor would he want me to), but would happy to send you copies if and when I find that scrapbook! Thanks again.
Neil
