Hello Alessio, My Dad spent time in Florence during the war and I have been there myself when I was 17 years old, 53 years ago. Maybe you could take a photo of the helmet and the inscriptions and post on this site. There is a the National World War I Museum in New Orleans, Louisianna that may be interested and might be able to help you as well. I have been in touch with them on other matters. Try emailing Caitlin Page: Caitlin Page Curatorial Assistant
The National WWII Museum 945 Magazine St. New Orleans, LA 70130 Tel: 504-528-1944 x478

Good luck, Alessio!

Hi, What does PROVENANCE OF THE FIND mean? How do you know it's 349th? I don't know for sure but I'm going to guess that the Q-3324 could be either his last initial and last 4 of his social security number or GI number. Somebody else here might know how that was done.

The GI registration has just numbers: 8 numbers, then a space then a letter and two more numbers, so I agree with Gary, this may be the last four digits of a social security number ![]()
